Friday Collage

Yesterday afternoon I was wrestling with excuses and trying to justify my reasons for not working on a collage for the week. I had slid into a serious blue funk and wasn't about to climb out just to work on a stupid collage! I also had a knitting group to go to that evening and was trying to find excuses for not going to that. Argh, Grumble, Grumble, and Fine - okay already! So I went to group, started a second sock (couldn't work on the Knitting Olympic project as the mother-to-be was also there) and my mood started to improve. Three hours of socializing, a good night's sleep and some more socializing with the Friday morning breakfast group... I came home with a better attitude and energy to work on the collage.

I found inspiration in a quilt remnant I had made years ago. It reminded me of an old growth forest. A couple of rotary cuts and re-assembly, some additional top-stitching and a few minutes with a fabic marker - I was done with Embrace (old) Growth.

I like the colors, too. Especially the way the "glow" gives depth to the piece.

I enjoy this piece, especially that it is all darker values and yet it really does glow. It reminds me of looking through a stained glass window. Nice design also with the repeating leaf shapes, right and left, broken up with the strong vertical lines.

I love brown and black combinations. This piece gives me inspiration for a future tree journal quilt...
