Friday Collage

Friday, yup, again. The theme this month for my weekly collages is foreign countries. I spent a few days trying to figure out what that might mean to me. My daughter suggested doing a collage for each country I've visited but that list is over 15 (although I don't think Yugoslavia exists anymore!) There are definitely places around the world that have left an impression on me - the only thing "foreign" about them is in my reaction to words or customs that made me feel uncomfortable. I have a lot of respect for the human animal and all-in-all we are a pretty outstanding species. Yes, there is good and bad, but I'd like to be optimistic about us and say that how we live, love and care for each other is pretty universal.

For this theme, the collages will focus on an experience I had in some country. Five years ago we moved the family to England for a year. It was a great opportunity, we all learned about the "hardship" of being away from home and it gave my girls a sense (albeit narrow and limited) of what it is like to think of themselves as citizens of the world. I'm calling this collage, BS8. Blue, pink and green dominate the collage because my girls went to school every day in blue and pink uniforms and the 'Downs' was one of our favorite places.

What a great focal element. I take it that this is sort of a map of the area you lived in?

Nice composition.

Yugoslavia was created as part of the peace for WWI. Now it has returned to it's more tradition borders. So you might have more countries if you were in different part of Yugoslavia...
