Weekly Collages - wk34 & wk35

wk34 - Be Jeweled

wk35 - Fashion Plate

I'm so excited that I'm almost caught up with my weekly collages! The two above finish up the August theme of Fashion.

Some of my 'weeklies' are hanging at a quilt show and a friend of mine commented that they are autobiographical. I know that occasionally I see that but in general I don't feel that way. As I was posting these I saw something I had not noticed and was reminded just how much our subconscious influences our art (and in turn partially confirms what my friend was saying.) While I was working on the 'Fashion Plate' piece, I had auditioned both blue and green hair for the figure on the left while the one on the right had bright yellow hair. I found that the yellow hair wasn't working with the pink corset so I went black. Looking for a blue/green among my stash of fused fabrics, I came across a red scrap and used it instead. Now, it just so happens that one of my daughters has long red hair (although she'll say her hair is longer than the one pictured) and the other dark brown. One tends to wear brighter clothes and carries fashionable handbags, the other dresses in more muted tones. But that's not them - neither wears clothes that short or tight and the corset is on the wrong girl!

(and I don't know who the woman is...)

The list of all my should-be-doings today seems to be stalled. I'm sure that any minute now I'll get that burst and race around and get everything done. Pieces for the September theme of Cityscape are scattered about the cutting board and I'm hoping to get them all done before the weekend. I would really like to start October without a nagging got-to-get-caught-up feeling! (Recovering from my TAST stumble may require an intervention... I think I'll check that Netflix queue.)

I love what you did with the hair on the first piece. This would be great as a really large study.
