Fridge Friday

This could be one of the strangest things I've done in a long while. So, at least for the next few weeks, I'll be participating with a group from NaBloPoMo in posting the contents in my refrigerator. I'm afraid not much is happening in there today. I had intended to make a Spinach Ricotta Pie this week, which now I'll probably make this weekend: bags of spinach, pie dough, ricotta, swiss and Parmesan cheese. Chanterelle mushrooms in the paper bag in the vegetable drawer will probably make it into an omelet. There's only two bottles of beer and my husband will most like add a couple of more tonight - the wine's in the door. The rest are staples - yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, olives, capers, salsa, hummus, pita, tortillas.

My copy of Alice Waters' The Art of Simple Foods arrived from Amazon this week. I like her philosophy and have been trying to cook, eat and live by, what she calls, fundamental guidelines. Actually, been doing many these things before I even knew about her. I think one of the more challenging things is "Eat Seasonally" - with food being brought in from all over the world, it's so tempting to buy it and then bring it home to discover that it doesn't taste as good as it looks!

Now, I need to escape to the studio and see if I can get some work done.

smiled at your list of staples -- for my household staples in the fridge would be relish, ketchup, mustard, crushed garlic, salsa and chili sauces, tabasco sauce, onions, carrots, eggs, bread and milk. Don't know that I've ever had capers in my house, and pita, hummus and olives are all "treats" that we generally only get if we're out....
