Back to work

weekly collage wk01-08

Carved out some time in the studio today to work on the first weekly of 2008. The theme for this month is Transition and I have decided to not name the pieces this year. In the spirit of the theme, this year I'm planning to re-use the weeklies I create in other artwork. They may become part of a large textile piece (whole or cut up) or I might use them in crafting a fabric journal or other items. I'm intend on spending less than two hours on making each weekly and in doing my best to use up my scraps.

I started to work on my pair of socks a month goal yesterday. I was reasonable optimistic that I could get at least one of the socks done. I picked up some fingering weight yarn, assuming I had the right needles at home, I didn't. I also thought I had a pattern. I had false start after false start until I finally decided to just work on a pair of kid socks with the larger needles. Neither my eyes nor hands cooperated at first but I pushed through and finally felt like I got the flow and tension I was looking for. I'll finish this pair, then find a pattern (buy the right needles), and I'll still have time this month to make another pair.

But all is okay with the world, I'm having fun.

Well, at least it's on my mind!
I've had to write the date four times today and not once did I write "07" - this living consciously thing must be working!

My living consciously challenge for today was to reflect on "What do I most need to learn right now?" After I got my preoccupation with remembering the lyrics to the Beach Boy's Fun, Fun, Fun out of my head, I thought about that for some time. It really comes down to asking the questions and finding the right answers so I can continue to move myself forward to achieve my goals. I was telling someone just the other day that I'm too old to spend the days I have left looking back on what went wrong in the past. I'm packing light for my future, discarding stuff that's not important and learning what I need to do to make the journey of getting there a good one! (I might need to spend time improving my grammar - clearly there should have been a comma in there somewhere!)

Tally ho!
(I meant to do this yesterday: Take A Look Last Year Hop Over!)

One of my goals for 2008 is to learn to knit socks so I can make them for Christmas gifts next year. Do you have an easy beginner's pattern?

P.S. I already know how to knit; I've just never knitted socks and haven't done too much knitting in the round.

Your first weekly quilt is lovely. Did you make this in less than 2 hours?
Love the socks too. Never knitted socks either...
