New Year's Day Football

That's about it. There was football in the morning, then some afternoon football, and finally this evening some more football.

After our revelry last night, we woke up late and by the time we got the house pulled together, we discovered that we had missed the Rose Bowl Parade. It's not really a must see, just something I've enjoyed over the years. I'll take a few moments later in the week and check the Tournament of Roses website to see if they've updated the images for the 2008 parade. In the meantime, I did find out that Cal Poly Universities' Guardians of Harmony Float won the Fantasy Trophy. This is about my only connection with my alma mater of so many years ago!

The rest of the chatter...

I'm still having a hard time getting down to the studio with everyone home and underfoot. I did manage to start some knitting between football and making soup. The soup turned out good. I roasted carrots, sweet potatoes, onions, squash for an hour, pureed the onions with a can of diced tomatoes, cut up the vegetables and put them all together in a soup pot with chicken broth, black-eyed peas, collard greens. I used this recipe as the bases for my soup. We also grilled some lamb sausages. For dessert, we're having rice pudding. I was determined to get my New Year off on the right foot: black-eyed peas for luck; collard greens for prosperity; and rice for health.

I began my daily reading in A Year of Living Consciously by Gay Hendricks. On the surface, today's assignment was simple...

This year, I commit to living consciously, and I commit to having fun as I do. I commit to expanding my consciousness and my capacity for fun every minute of this year.

I'm in trouble!

Living consciously is one thing, fun - what does that mean? fun 1. something that provides mirth or amusement 2. enjoyment or playfulness. Okay, clearly, I have work to do.

Tally Ho!

I see a lot of playfulness and enjoyment in your work...

I understand your dilemma--I'm not one to go out and have "fun". Fun to me is figuring out a process and then doing it right. I don't have time to waste having "fun"!
(which is why we have no real social life either)

Sounds like a lot of commitment. Perhaps you can alternate between expanding your consciousness and working on your capacity for fun.

I may have to go check this book out.

Your soup sounds great!
