WIP Wednesday

I spent yesterday at the library trying to find a book on drawing that would inspire me. I found The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. It was really the subtitle that appealled to me - 'a course in enhancing creativity and artistic confidence'. I'm trying to come to terms with drawing but what I really want is to see and to think differently about the art I make. Drawing is hopefully a vehicle that will help me open up more creatively. I've made a commitment to draw everyday during the month of November. Most of my work in process today was getting started with an assignment to draw a "self-portrait", "a person, drawn from memory" and "my hand" - the hand comes the closest to resembling what it should. My husband will probably wonder what I really think of him! My own "self-portrait"... well, as my daughter said when she saw it 'some of the elements are right - but when you put them all together they don't quiet look like you.' Which is what I thought!

My other WIP is doodling! Last month I successfully "doodled" in The Journal of Madame Giovanni by Alexandre Dumas for thirty-one straight days. I'm documenting that journey at Mad Me Journals.

Also in the picture is my 'kim-doll' which I am determined finish: attach her hair; put her head on her body; and dress her - before the end of the month. She's been sitting around headless and naked for far too long!

Kim, this is great that you are using sketching to enhance your creativity. I am finding I would like to do this as well. It makes such a difference to be able to get it right in sketch first. But, as we know, this takes a great deal of practice! I am looking forward to seeing your month of "sketching." I am also trying to work to get a good face!

Just the fact that you are drawing is what is important. You are doing what it takes to learn and improve.
I love your doodling, I hadn't heard of that before.
Kim-doll is interesting with her head in her lap; but I don't suppose you can leave her that way.

It's funny how doing some drawing has inspired me to do more. Great, another addiction!
