New Year's Day

Hopefully todays start to the new year is an anomaly and not a predictor of how my year is going to be! It might be said that it was a relaxing day but truth be told I was just lazy! I could blame it on a New Year's Eve party but the kitchen was cleaned up and the house put back in order before 2am. I was up and enjoying the Rose Bowl Parade by eight o'clock.

I noticed that SharonB had posted the TSTC(wk1) and decided not to try and figure out if this was an "easy" stitch or not! I did take a few minutes to finish a fabric journal that I had started months ago. I am slowly working my way through Pam Sussman's Fabric Art Journals. I have now complete the three simple bindings and I'll be moving onto the intermediate bindings projects (tape-bound, french-stitch and house box journals)over the next few months.

I'm planning to use this journal to hold the 6"x4" postcards I make while working on the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge.

Such a busy gal you are! Love the fabric on this journal and what a great idea to make 6 x 4's out of the Take a Stitch Tuesday challenges.

I love Pam Sussmans book, it's one of my favorites. I looked at the take a stitch tuesday and it looked pretty hard to me. My hand stitching is so bad!

What a fantastic way to display your TAST postcards. Will the journal hold all 52 of them?

Doesn't sound like a "lazy" day to me! I like your idea for postcards for your TAST samples and your journal is going to be cool. I have not heard of Pam Sussman and will check out her book.

Thanks, Kim, for mentioning Pam Sussman's Fabric Art Journal. I had not heard of it. It looks like something that I "need"!

The herringbone stitch is one of those basic, workhorses of the embroidery stitches. You can do all kinds of variations with it. It is really simple to do & a good one to try. Give it a go!

The Sussman book is a great inspiration and a fab workbook as well--got me going last year!
Awesome idea for postcards and sampler-ish ideas!

Love your 4x6 journal. I look forward to seeing your TSTC work. I also have this book by Sussman and have yet to make something from it. But it's on my list of things to do.

Like the idea of you making 6 x 4 cards for the TAST. Haven't decided whether or not to go with it, but your idea may just be the nudge I need.

On a different note, you mentioned not knowing what the Embellisher is. It is like a sewing machine, but does not use any thread. It has barbed needles that "felt" your fibers to your base fabric. I don't own one, but have considered getting one.

I really like the Sussman book. I need to pull it back out and look at it again.

I'm looking forward to watching the TAST project unfold. I'm probably not going to participate, but I'm anxious to see what people do.
