Herringbone Stitch
In my early twenties I fell in love with Jacobean Embroidery designs. I remember doing a drawing and even bought a book in hopes of learning some stitches. I still have the book Encyclopedia of Embroidery Stitches Including Crewel by Marion Nichols, 1974 - it cost $4.95 and it's in great condition. This week is the first time I've used the book! I decided to work my Herringbone sampler on a 6"x4" piece of 14 count cross stitch fabric with cotton DMC 6-strand embroidery floss size 25. I knew all that embroidery floss would come in handy some day! Between what I had and what I inherited from my Grandmother, I should be able to complete all 52 weeks without purchasing any more.
STITCH with the Embroiderers Guild has many wonderful projects and at least one Jacobean design. On my someday list I need to add doing a Jacobean-style Tree of Life in green/blue/brown/red.

CONGRATULATIONS!! Week 1 passed with flying colours!!!!
Your mini sampler turned out great! I still haven't started this week's challenge I'd best get a move on else the week will be done!
Very cool. I really like the abstracted, space-filling ones.
Woo hoo...your first sampler. Great job Kim! I soooooo want to subscribe to Stitch magazine, but wow is it spendy.
Love what you've done - great colours, great variety. Fun to play isn't it :)
Well, just call you lightening fingers! Looks great! some cool ideas there.
Looks good, Kim. I think the stitches look good on the cross stitch fabric. And I like how you did the different shapes... circles, diagonals...
Just goes to show what you can achieve with one simple stitch. Well done.
A fantastic sampler. It's interesting how much the combination of colors change the look of the stitch.
Interesting way you did your sampler - I like the bottom experiments. Did you wish you had a bigger piece? Are you going to store these in a photo album?
I don't feel so bad that I just got my background done yesterday for my 12 x 12 x 4, if you are starting yours this week. =)
Love your herringbone!
Great sampler! I love the one with the pink in it... that's fab!
