A Fortnight of Birthday Wishes

My husband is turning fifty-one on the 21st of December... just a kid, young at heart and full of life. Having a birthday in December can be tough with the holidays and celebrations in full swing. To add to that, he takes care of his needs and wants really well. The girls and I start teasing him in November about not buying himself things and by mid December threatening him that we will wrap anything he buys himself and count it as a birthday present! So this year, I decided to do something different.

But first, in the spirit of full disclosure, I must say, that I unabashedly stole this idea from Jen (Bayou Quilts) who is celebrating her husbands' birthday this month. I was so moved when I read what she was doing. What a beautiful and wonderful way to honor someone. At the time I wondered if I had the courage (and discipline) to do that. Well...

For this first day, a piece of chocolate and a card.

Besides a personal note, suggesting we take the dog for a walk along the river and then going out for coffee, I also included the following:

Thoughts for the Fortnight

And think not you can
Direct the course of love,
For love,
If it finds you worthy,
Directs your course.

Love is not a matter of counting the years...
But making the years count.

I hope your husband gets as big a kick out of this as mine has! His pleasure (and consternation) has made this so much fun. I'm e-mailing pictures of his gifts because he is out of town and can't wait until he gets back to see them. Love your quotes, Kim!
