Twenty-five years ago

He's was from New York by way of Carnegie Mellon and I grew up in a military family where the four years I spent at Cal Poly was the longest time I'd every lived in one place. We met in Oregon, talked, dated, lusted, loved, bought a house, and we were married twenty-five years ago today in our living room surrounded by family and friends.

We had our ups and down, ins and outs, and rounds and bouts, but through it all we've loved.

Happy Anniversary, my love!

Living consciously...

I love that Hendricks used this quotation with the reading today:
I have a simple philosophy: Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. And scratch what itches. ~ Alice Roosevelt Longworth

I believe that the original quotation was 'Scratch where it itches.' At ninety, she proudly proclaimed that she was a hedonist. I'm don't think that's what Hendricks is suggesting - he's more scholarly and sedate with a practice that reads: What I am learning during this stage of the journey... What I would most like to work on learning... I still struggle with statements like being who you might have been had experience and repression and lessons that taught you to hide from yourself and others not gotten in your way. In my journey, I'm trying to stay focused on moving into the future and NOT drag along all the baggage of the past. Now, consciously living as a hedonist, that might be interesting.

Part of the Hedonist International manifesto reads, "want joyful togetherness, anarchy, epicurean ideas, multifaceted joy, sensuality, diversion, friendship, justice, tolerance, freedom, sexual freedom, sustainability, peace, free access to information, the arts, a cosmopolitan existence, and a world without borders or discrimination, and everything else that is wonderful but not a reality today."

I don't need the anarchy but the rest...
