On to a new pair...

These are the next pair of socks I'm knitting. I found the pattern, Tequila Phoenix, at Knitty (here.) I'm planning to use a yarn I already own, a burgundy tweed, but I am certainly tempted by the KPPPM 621.

I made it through a whole weeks worth of the NYTimes Crossword. The crossword today was relatively easy with just a few tricky bits. My two favorite words bon ton and amerce -- couldn't help but think about punishing the fashionable elite with an arbitrary fine. Perhaps they already punish themselves... who pays $3295 for a purse?

Living consciously...

If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. ~ Marcus Aurelius

Nothing is good or bad but our thinking makes it so. ~ William Shakespeare

The above quotations illustrate the practice today: Begin to make a distinction between the reality of a given event...and your interpretation of it.

I've been trying to work on not getting "riled" up by things -- stay positive and not drift into the negative. Breaking the habit of how I react to things is the key. For years I've had a mantra of 'mind the gap' - the 'gap' between stimulus and response - I suppose now I need to slip a reality filter on it.

Purty sox. I am a crossword maven, but the NY Times crosswords are tough nuts to crack, especially after Wednesday.

rian - I'm struggling with the sox - haven't quite found my zen with the round and round activity. It seems to work best when I get distracted by something good on TV. (That may be the problem... not enough good on TV!)

My husband got me a subscription to the NYTimes online last XMAS and we've been doing the crossword online since then. I struggle when it becomes to pop culture or gimmicky. My favorite days are WThF, on the weekend we put it up on the computer and will work at it together throughout the day.
