Now

My 2009 Word of the Year for: Now

At the end of 2006, Christine Kane wrote about choosing just one word to focus on for an entire year instead of making resolutions in her You Say You Want a Resolution post. On December 1st, she wrote about featuring guest bloggers throughout the month to share their own experiences in choosing Word-of-the-Year. (I've also enjoyed throughout this year seeing Sharon's Enough unfold at All Norah'S Art.)

I've been shuffling through a dozen words over the last couple of weeks trying to decide on one: change, discipline, transformation, bimble, transition, joy, happiness, presence, awareness, spine, magic(!), ritual. I was watching a little football, when I suddenly thought "now" and I knew that would be my word for 2009. It's funny, it's been there all along - November's TIFC was all about NOW and on my bulletin board NOW and NEXT. (Maybe for 2010 I'll do NEXT!)

Now, it's time for a glass of wine.

Living consciously...

Today's practice: Take time out right now for ten seconds of pure love for your inner victim, the part of you that feels entitled to...everything!

OK? not really. I'm not sure that my 'inner victim' feels entitled to everything. Self-empathy for that inner victim, sure - but I'm at a part of my life where I want to develop qualities, strengths, and attitudes that represent the next steps in my growth.

And what wine are we consuming tonight? Inquiring minds want to know.

I love your "now" collage. I think it would be cool to do a "here" one so you could be in the "here and now."

Rian - Ah, the wine... 2005 La Châtelaine, Côtes du Rhône (Grenache 50%, Syrah 25%, and Cinsault 25%) - not too fancy, easy-drinking, bold mouth of berries/cherries/chocolate, typical spicy note, and a mellow finish.

I'll have to consider a 'here and now' companion piece as I work through 2009. My mind is already racing with possibilities in having "NOW" as my word for the year.

Eternity has nothing to do with the hereafter... This is it... If you don't get it here, you won't get it anywhere. The experience of eternity right here and now is the function of life. Heaven is not the place to have the experience; here's the place to have the experience. ~ Joseph Campbell

I couldn't decide on a word last year and am finding the same difficulty this year. Maybe my word should be "decisiveness" since choosing a word is so difficult.

I like your word, though, and the collage--very emphatic! And I like Rian's idea which fits so well with the Joseph Campbell quote.

That's a good word!

Jenclair - How about just "Decide" - I just had to look for quotes as well:
Our power is in our ability to decide. ~ Richard Buckminster Fuller
People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures. ~ FM Alexander

Vicki - Yep! I am very happy with it. Easy to remember and it's already influencing how I move through the day. Who knew something so simple could have such an impact.

Hi Kim,
Here I am catching up and saw your word. WoW, I love it. I came upon my word early in December and had to start using it immediately. I haven't blogged about it yet but will. My word for 2009 is "expect". It is powerful.
