Week 01 - Look More Closely

wk 01-10

My first weekly piece of this new year.

I took over a dozen photos yesterday and after looking at them on the computer I deleted all but two. (Must admit I do love the world of digital photography!) This is the ornament that I've had since my first Christmas in 1952. I think my mother sent it home with me when I was in my mid-twenties, can't remember when exactly. I always place it near the top of the tree close to a light. Shot this picture with only the tree lights on in a dark room (with the flash, of course.) I like the shadow that the ornament cast.

fragile glass: shadows of Christmas past

My theme for January is "Look" and as I was thinking about what to do for this first weekly I consider the phrase 'look more closely,' and zoomed in on the ornament in Photoshop until I found an image that I was happy with.

I'm happy with the way the fabric piece turned out as well.

More.

Finishing this piece today tested my patience - and it really was JUST as I was trying to square the thing up and run a blanket stitch around the edges. My rulers were buried behind a wall of books that will be finding a new home (hopefully in the next couple of days.) I tried to be all Zen-like and accept the fact that my space is still in chaos but truth be told I'm... what's that string of symbols that one uses when they want to swear but not offend anyone - well, imagine those RIGHT HERE.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's going to be fine. Breathe.

Interesting technique to zoom in on a spot in a photo. Great result!

I looooove it! Who would've thought worn areas on an old ornament could be so beautiful?

Yes, we all need to look ... and look closely at that. Thank you.

When I first saw that piece it looked like a topographical map to me. I immediately wanted a vacation!

Beautiful though so thank you.
