The art of words

My yougest daughter recently turned 18 and sat tonight working on her ballot. She is doing her best to understand the ballot measures and exercise her right to vote.

Wouldn't it be "swell" if everyone exercised their right to vote? Wouldn't it be great if this nation had , oh... I don't know, maybe an 80% turnout? I can dream!

"Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves—and the only way they could do this is by not voting." --- FDR

If you've had enough of CNN/Fox/ABC/CBS/NBC or Jon Stewart during these last few days before the polls close, you can visit The Capital Steps or check them out on YouTube.

I agree - We'll hope for 80%. I and my husband will be voting. Your non-political encouragement is refreshing. Thanks!

My 18th birthday fell the day AFTER election day. I worked on one of the presidential campaigns, feeling it was the only way for me to make a difference and was frustrated by the apathy I encountered. More than 30 years later, I still don't understand that apathy. Your daughter is making a great start on her lifetime of voting. Brava to her.

My 22yr old daughter has voted in every election since she turned 18 early in her senior year, no matter the issues or the size of the ballot. Tonight she was just saying that she really needed to work on her ballot for tomorrow; I am so happy to see that this is important to the young people around me...
