The inspiration for this piece is a fairy tale from Scotland, The Fairies and the Hump-back. A traveler danced with the fairy queen and sang "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday" so well that the fairies removed his hump. I stitched the words from the song on hand-dyed fabric with varigated thread, the fairy body was fused in place with green and blue decorative thread sewn to the head. I created the fairy wings by cutting a small hole in a piece of organza and free-motion zigzag around the opening - repeating the process with another small hole which connected to the first hole - and so on until I had the look I wanted, then I trimmed away the organza. The wings are only attached down the spine and lay about half an inch above the surface.

I love this piece, Kim.
What can I say? Love! Love! Love! It! I love the way that you positioned the fairy to dance...great use of movement. Wish I could draw like you!

I forgot to ask a question. What do you do with all of your collages? Do you display them or are they going to be a part of a journal? Or, are you going to submit them to a quilt exhibit?
