Jolly friends

I received a package from my parents recently. It included some dolls my grandmother had started but never finished. I am the "crafty" person in the family and since I have done a few other dolls I got custody of these ladies. I'm drawn to the little faceless forms and the lace-underwear tattooed girl. I'd like to modernize the kitchen witch and give her a new frock - something like the one on Jen's tea towel. The blond with the button eyes is my least favorite but the body's good and would provide a good foundation to build on. We'll see, for now I'll let them hang out with the other naked doll from I have in the studio.

For some reason I was reminded of a song we use to sing when I was growing up - Oh, Playmate, Come out and Play with me - by Saxie Dowell. It was written in 1940 but revived by The Fontane Sisters in 1955... Playmates - the version I remember.

Nearly done with the first anklet, the heel is shaped and I have twelve rows of K2P2 before I bind off - hopefully I'll cast on the stitches for the second anklet tomorrow.





My favorite answer in today's NYTimes crossword was Niobe (54 down: Weeper of Myth) who upset the gods by boasting about having fourteen children. Leto's twins Artemis and Apollo killed the Niobids. The practice: Ask yourself if you've been resisting chaos instead of acknowledging it as a valid part of life.

I had a choice? Seriously, accepting the chaos that comes with life is necessary if for no other reason than to ensure my sanity in the long run. Life comes with ups and downs, and while I try to manage my life to minimize (or at least organize) my chaos, I'm alert to the fact that something new can come into my life at any time and I need to deal with it. I may have a pity-party for a few minutes but I'll do what I need to do to get through it.
